Department Overview

The Department of Philosophy at Augustinian Institute is dedicated to the pursuit of wisdom, truth, and understanding through rigorous intellectual inquiry. Our programs are designed to develop critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and a deep appreciation for the philosophical traditions that have shaped human thought.

  • Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy (B.A. Philosophy) - 4-year undergraduate program
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Philosophy (PGD Philosophy) - 1-year program
  • Master of Arts in Philosophy (M.A. Philosophy) - 2-year postgraduate program
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Philosophy - 3-5 year research program

Undergraduate Program (B.A. Philosophy)
  • Minimum of 5 credits in SSCE/GCE/O'Level including English and Mathematics
  • JAMB UTME score of 150 and above
  • Post-UTME screening exercise
  • Direct Entry requirements: Two A'Level passes in relevant subjects
Postgraduate Programs
  • PGD Philosophy: First degree in any discipline with a minimum of Third Class
  • M.A. Philosophy: First degree in Philosophy with a minimum of Second Class Lower
  • Ph.D. Philosophy: Master's degree in Philosophy with a minimum CGPA of 3.5

Note: All applicants must meet the general admission requirements of the Institute and may be required to participate in an interview process.
